The story of my name:Diana

Diana is my only name, given by my parents .Diana is the mythological name of the hunting god in ancient Italy. Before I was born, my parents knowing that I was a girl decided together my name. Each of them made a list of ten names and then they picked up the first name that matched both lists. Diana was the very first name on my mother’s list.  A lot of girls of my age have this name in Europe and mostly in Great Britain because in the year before I was born princess Diana of Whales tragically died. Princess Diana was a model for the people of my parents’ age and probably that’s why this name was on my parents list.

The first name on my father’s list was Alexandra because my father’s name is Alexandru and he is very proud of his name. It is the name of my father, my grandfather and of an uncle of my father.

On my mother’s list there was no name containing the letter “R” because she was afraid that I won’t be able to say my own name correctly. After years she realized this is not a problem for me. My mother has two names, one is Corina and the other one is Dana which comes from her mother first name,Dan.

I don’t know if having this name means anything for me and my future but I liked it.

 

Names in my family-Teodora

 

 

Everybody like to talik about their family. Usually families in my country are formed of 3 or 4  members, but my family is anusual since it is formed of six members.

My mother whose name is Adriana is doctor and she is very nice. Her name come from a Roman emperor Hadrianus , the adoptive son of Traian, who built Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England, but olso  from the name  of 6 popes and 3 saints and it is olso the name of a town in Texas. All in all the name Adriana means joy, love and happiness.

My stepfather whose name is Dumitru is a very nice and funny person. He like to make jokes and to make us laugh. The name Dumitru comes from that of Greek god Demetrius who was the patron of agriculture.

I have one sister ans two step brothers all having nice name. My  sister’s name is Daria. Her name comes from ancient persian and means the ones that passeses the good or mentains the good. In Russian the name Daria means gift and just like my name, Teodora, the gift of God,we are both gifts from God for our mother.

My stepbrothers names are Sergiu-Mihai and Andrei-Sorin. Sergiu is the oldest brother and his name comes from Latin meaning to save or servant. His other name Mihai comes from Michael meaning “ Who is the God?” and it is the name of the archangel Michael who is the protector of Israel people.

Andrei, the youngest member oh the family is in the first grade. His name is of Greek origine  and it means “warrior”. Saint Andrew or Andrei( in my language) is the patron saint of Romania and it is celebrated on 30 th of November. The name is conected to Scotland which was on it’s flag Saint Andrew’s cross. His other name, Sorin, is symbolises optimism and good nood.

My name is Teodora and I like it very much because it is nice, it is a unique meaning and because it represent me. I’m pround of my name because it was the name of many empresses and saints.

A simple choice:my name…

        To choose my name was a very simple thing that my parents have done. I am born in 2 December and in 16 December, in orthodox calendar, is mentioned Queen Teofana. My mother wants to give me this name and my father agree.

        My second name, Ioana, was my father’s idea because he loved very much his grandmother with the same name and he wanted to give me her name.

        My mother’s name is Monica which in Romanian means “monastery”(manastire) and Mona comes from the Irish “muadh”, meaning “noble”. 

        My father’s name is Iacob who was an apostle of the God.

        I think this name represents me and I’m proud I have this name. 

 

The story of my name:Daniela

My parents gave me the name Daniela because my father’s name is Daniel.they thought it was a name that suited me and they liked it because it’s rare. Daniela means “God is my judje” exactly what Daniel means.

My father’s name is Daniel Adrian.  Before my father was born, my grandmother dreamed that she had a baby boy whose name was Daniel, so she decided she wanted that name for her boy . My grandfather gave my father the second name Adrian after the great Roman emperor Hadrian. He thought that the name was powerful, important and lucky.

My mothers name is Ioana . The name comes from Hebrew language’s form Yochanan and means “God is gracious”. It is the equivalent of the English names Joan or Jane.My grandparents gave my mother that name because my grandfather’s name is Ioan,which is the male version of the name and the Romanian form of the English version John.

My sister’s name is Stefana .It is a variant of Stephanie(Greek) and it means “crown”,”garland”.My parents gave her this name because they liked it a lot and they thought it suited her. The English version of the name is Stephanie for girls and Stephen as the male form.

The story of my name:Flavia Semida

My mother always said that if she would have a daughter her name will be Flavia.She saw this name in a history letter, Pilat’s letter, where Flavia was a friend of Claudia,Pilat’s wife.

On their honeymoon,my parents bought a ball and write my name on it.I think it’s funny because at that time I was just a plan and who knows if I wouldn’t be a boy?Unfortunately, I didn’t see the ball because it broke. When I asked my parents about any alternative names they thought to give me,my mother said this is the perfect name for me because it’s uncommon and beautiful.

My father wanted me to have a middle name:Semida, as my mother.

Semida is a latin name.My grandparents saw this name in the Pilat’s letter.They loved it,so it was decided that their daughter’s name will be Semida.

My father’s name is Viorel,which is the masculine form of Viorela,a flower.

Choosing my name-Sorana

When my parents found out that they were going to have a baby were so happy. Both of them wished that I would be a girl and when the doctor said that a girl will be born they started to think about choosing the perfect name for me.
First, my parents thought about the name Cristiana because it was a beautiful name which is the feminin version of the name Cristian and it means the follower of Christ. They also wanted to give me the name Cristiana because my brother is called Cristian and they thought  it would be beautiful to have similar names, but after a while they changed their mind and decided to call me Sorana because they loved this name from the first time they heard it and because it means shine, so they were sure that this name would be perfect for me.

My mother’s name is Cornelia. The origin and the meaning of this name are not fully clarifield by the experts. Most of them think that the name is a derived from the noun ’’cornu’’ which means horn in Romanian. In antiquity, the horn of the ram was a symbol of force, being used in different magical rituals to lay the evil spirits.

My father’s name is Sorin. This name is derived from the word ’’soare’’ which means sun in Romanian and it reflects the shine and the good mood which is spread among others by the person who has this name.

I love my name and I think it represents me. 

The story of my name-Teodora

   My parents have always wanted a child very much, but my father has always wished for a girl. Before I was born, they decided to have a talk so they could find the perfect name for me. First, the doctor  told my mother that I was a boy. My father was a little bit disappointed but then they started looking for a boy name. They decided to call me Tudor, which means “leader”. My father continued to hope that I was the girl he wished for so he thought to call me Teodora if I was a girl. My mother agreed, because Teodora  means  “the gift of God” and because they wanted a child so much that I was like the best gift for  them.

   My father’s name is Dan. The meaning of this name is “Judge” . In the bible, Dan was the fifth son of Jacob and founder of one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

    My mother’s name is Carmen Ileana. Carmen means in latin “song” or “poetry”, while in other languages it means “garden”. One of the titles of the Virgin Mary is Santa Maria del Carmen, meaning “Saint Mary of Mount Carmel”, and this form of the name honors her. Also Carmen is the name of the tragic romantic heroine of Bizet’s opera “Carmen” . The meaning of the name Ileana is “light” or “the shining one”.

The choice of my name: Bianca Laura

            Before I was born, each of my parents did a list with their favourite names. Bianca was the only common name in their lists. Because they liked a lot this name, they decided to choose it for me. My mother wanted to give me a flower name and because she liked Laura, now I have two names, Bianca Laura. Another option of my name was Andreea and Poliana, but they think Bianca Laura was perfectly suited for me. Laura means daphne which is known as the symbol of peace and Bianca, which has an Italian origin, means white colour, brilliance, clarity and purity.

             My mother’s name is Simona Camelia. The meaning of the name Simona is “listener” and it sounds very beautiful. Camelia means flowering shrub, which is a beautiful ornamental flower, evergreen whose coloures varies from pink, red, yellow. It is also known as a commercial plant, tea is made from its leaves.

             My father’s name is Claudiu Călin. Claudiu was the family name of several Roman emperors of the 1^st century, including the emperor known simply as Claudius. The name was later born by several early saints, including a 7^th century bishop of Besançon. Călin means soft, nice, mellow, smooth, hug and embrace. A great Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu wrote a very nice poem, called Călin (Pages of Fairy).  

            I like very much my name and I think it is well chosen for me!

About my name: Iulia

I have two names, Iulia and Maria. Before I was born my mother chose the name Iulia for me. Iulia means love, kindness, gift from God. My father wanted Diana, which means goddess, glorious and divine. My uncle, who wanted very much to have a girl and to give her the name Maria, had got two sons. Maria is the name of a very important saint. She born Jesus. She was kind and she was devoted to God. After I was born, they gave me the name Iulia and Maria.

My mother’s name, Dorina, means gift, and my father’s name, Adrian means people from Hadria. Adrian is popular as a baby name for boys, and it is also considered trendy. The Latin name Adrian means – dark . The Greek name Adrian means – a form of Andrew; rich.

Even if they haven’t chosen the name Diana and they named me Iulia, I don’t think that’s so important. I love my name just the way it is and I love my family very very much.
